,'Mr. Evers:
My son,Jamari, stationed at the Naval Base in Norfolk, VA, just called me to share with me the "USS Medgar Evers" ship just came to port. He was so excited that I could hear it in His voice and feel it through the phone. He said the ship is awesome. He was proud of a ship named in honor of an African americian. One He could relate with. He mentioned the Medgar Evers site we visited; The statue, historical house, post office and other sites.  He also talked about meeting you years ago and His autographed copy of "The Autobiography of Medgar Evers".  This made me a very proud parent.  It let me know my civil rights teaching didn't fall on deaf ears. Thank you for keep the Medgar Ever's name before us. That phone conversation energized my  spirit to not give up on our youth.'
